It's World Concertina Day!

The second annual World Concertina Day, sponsored by the International Concertina Association, was on February 6, 2023. The event is held to celebrate the anniversary of the birth of Sir Charles Wheatstone, inventor of the English concertina, in 1802. Many groups and players around the world played on or near this day in celebration. Click here for more information on what was planned to mark the occasion.

Kettle Bridge Concertinas’ contribution was to convert their regular Monday afternoon beginners’ session to be open to all members for a play-along. Tunes had been selected from around the world and individual members could choose what to play from the extensive list. We visited Finland, Ukraine, Uruguay, England, Wales, Scotland, USA, Italy, France, Belgium, Austria and Africa. And then it was time for tea and cake; the worldwide trip was over!
