Ten members of the Kettle Bridge Concertina band recently found themselves in a village hall in rural Five Oak Green, near Tonbridge, on a sunny Saturday morning. They were there to participate as guest performers at the AGM of the Weald Trefoil Guild, which is the organisation for those involved in the girl guiding movement.
Our programme lasted about 45 minutes in total, including Sue’s introductions to the tunes and a brief history of the concertina. The band’s varied programme included old favourites such as Do You Hear the People Sing, Oom Pah Pah, and Try a Little Tenderness, and the receptive audience voluntarily participated in Over the Rainbow and Moon River; no encouragement necessary!
Afterwards, there was much interest in the concertina from the Trefoil members. Some wanted to try it out or just wanted to know how it worked. There may be some new recruits joining the band following this enjoyable morning!
